Dane Lovett
If you spend a lot of time staring at Dane Lovett’s paintings, like I do, you might feel that some of those succulents above look familiar. Looking around Dane’s studio is a bit like being inside of one of his still life paintings, or several at once: plants, mainly succulents, vases, pieces of outdated technology, videotapes.
There is a collection of records that Dane brought back to Melbourne from his residency in Tokyo. He confesses he doesn’t necessarily listen to them a lot, the covers are the main attraction. It’s fascinating to see them pop up in his new work.
